Ikuki set a hand on Nox's shoulder, in an attempt to comfort him; "It's okay that you both have different interests, Nox. Just because he's Elven, doesn't mean he has to lean toward the magical side of things. There are some Elves known to be great warriors, you know." she smiled sweetly at him. "And some of them are attune with nature, which it does seem to be drawing him in. He just needs to figure things out, on his own. The thing is, when someone is going through depression or hate or anger, you can tell them that you're there for them all you want...but it doesn't matter how many times you say it, sometimes they just feel alone. It isn't something that's so easy, to fix." she glanced at Mark, who was still standing next to Lux.
"Sometimes, they need to work through it in their own way. Sometimes there just isn't anything you can do, and sometimes they need to see someone that's a lot more qualified than we are. Sometimes they even need medication or in our case, potions. None of that is anything to be ashamed of. It's okay to know when you can't help somebody, and you should never, ever, ever blame yourself for their actions. All you can do for your brother is let him know that he can talk to you. Be kind to him, and listen to him. Don't force anything on him, and let him decide when he wants to talk and how much he wants to talk about. The two of you do truly care deeply about one another, and I know that in his heart, he knows you'll always be there for him."
"All that being said, I am glad the two of you seem to be having a good time, so far. Who knows? When we get to those old magic shops, maybe the two of you will find something that just clicks, and can benefit you both. In the meantime, watch this." she smirked as she scribbled an incantation onto a piece of paper, and folded it into a simple origami swan. She held it up to her lips and whispered something into it, causing whatever she had drawn or written on it, to glow a brilliant gold color and the paper swan to flutter around on its own. "Science, magic, art, even sewing. None of it is all that different, once you know how it all works."
Mark, meanwhile, was still talking with Lux. "You're not a downer, Lux." he assured him. "We all have our emotional moments. If we didn't, then we'd all just be robots. It's okay to hurt, and be sad, and...feel the crushing weight of responsibility over the entire universe..." he said in a much more hushed tone, hoping Lux didn't hear him state his own fears.
"I know what it's like to be treated, poorly. Bullied, pushed around, accused of things because someone doesn't understand. I just want to treat people the way I wished I was treated, as a kid. Everyone deserves kindness, even though you don't think should. That's one of the reasons I always try to resolve conflicts as non-violently, as possible. Even bad guys weren't always that bad, y'know?" he shrugged.
When Lux mentioned being associated with family without anyone getting to know them, that struck a nerve. All he could do was swallow his hate and anger, take a deep breath in, and breath out slowly, before responding. "I know what it's like to be associated with family, too. I'm supposed to live up to some grand standard. I'm supposed to just accept a responsibility I don't want. Supposed to be proud of who I am, just because I'm related to some all-powerful dragon jerk. I just want to be proud of who I am as an individual. Of what I built, on my own. So maybe I just saw a bit of myself in you from the start, and just didn't know it yet. Never believed in fate before all this, but she's starting to convince me." he said as though it physically hurt him to admit it.
"Anyway, today is everyone's day. You and Nox get a tour of the city, I get to spend the day with my daughter, and Ikuki gets a date with the hottest guy in town." he said with a smirk, which was promptly interrupted as an origami swan flew right into his face and landed on his shoulder. He could see writing in it, and out of curiosity, unfolded the paper swan to read the words "ur cute" inside of a heart drawn in crayons. He looked back at Ikuki, who was making a heart gesture with her hands and wearing a cheeky grin. He grinned back at her and winked, as he blew her a kiss.

Quietly, Nox listened to Ikuki explain to him that some Elves were warriors. Which made him recall that there was a tale of one Elf, who was a warrior with a sword, who would run around the land slaying monsters to protect his kingdom. He did have some magical elements to his journey but that was after he obtained items that were enchanted or encountered a fairy that allowed him to borrow their powers. It was a story that he could remember his Mother telling him and his brother when they were super young. However, all of the details of it were fuzzy, as his Mother wasn’t quite able to retell it more than a few times.
Then she went on about dealing with depression. It was true, it wasn’t easy to fix and he was quickly becoming aware that it was something beyond his control. As much as he wanted his brother to be happy, he knew that it would be something Lux would have to figure out on his own. And as she said, never to force it upon him, and let him decide on what he needs to accomplish, was a good start. Especially with allowing him to realize, he wasn’t truly alone.
Nox glanced over to his brother once more. He knew Lux was aware of his alliance with his own twin, regardless of the different treatment he received. Nox was always following after him, even when he, himself, was deemed to be a more powerful Elf than the other. He just hoped that Lux realizes that, Nox doesn’t find himself to be particularly special. Outside of his own surprisingly high intellect, Nox felt that he was a terrible fighter. Aiding others, was something he had more interest in.
Then Ikuki made a paper crane and whispered something into it. He smiled when he felt like he understood what she said to it. As it began to soar into the air, he watched it. “Magic is such a peculiar thing. I wish to learn more about them both. The science behind magic. How to create something...I know one of the big rules of alchemy is, to obtain something you desire, something equal to the value of it needs to be lost.”
He paused for a moment as he watched Mark grab the paper crane and open it with a smile. Nox felt their interactions were rather cute and absolutely loved how the two of them seemed to have clicked so well. “...I know there’s a lot of mathematics, knowledge of construction and deconstruction, as well as chemistry and physics involved with it. Which fascinates me. I just hope that I can learn a lot about it, just so I can do things to help others.”
While Nox spoke to Ikuki, Lux listened to Mark’s side of the story. It’s then that he realized that he and Mark had similar problems. They both were bearing the weight of a family pride that sometimes, was a bit much to handle. Plus the wrath of the reputation their name brought. “Wow...” He frowned. “Sounds like you and I have a lot of issues, similar to one another huh? Guess I’m not alone on this...”
He gave Mark an unsure smile, knowing that it may have been fate that brought them two together. “You know, it’s possible. Nox could go on about that too, because some of the stories he reads will speak about it. Though...he likes his romantic comedy drama stuff.” He wrinkled his nose and made a disgusted sound. “I don’t know how some folks can read that but I suppose it’s on the boat he likes.” He then shrugged.
Then there was a little paper bird that fluttered over to Mark and parked itself upon him. After he opened it, Lux grinned at the smile he had. The hand-heart was also super cute. “Well...I really like-“ He saw a table where kids were drawing and painting on it. And he got an idea. “Mind if I go over there and play around with some of their mediums?”
After Mark’s response, Lux walked over to the table to see what was going on. Two kids that were there before him, stepped towards the side after greeting him. After Lux returned the greeting, he grabbed a piece of the paper and begins to color on it with paint. The ideas he had in his mind were swirling about as he stroked the paper with the pencils he used.
One of the two kids had peeked at what Lux was making. He gasped at how quickly Lux was managing a picture. “Wow! You’re really good at coloring!”
“Oh...uh...thanks.” Lux responded with uncertainty. “I...just...had a uh...idea...and... yeah...”
“Well, you’re so good at it!” The kid chimed. “Isn’t he, Junior?”
Junior appeared to be close to Lux and Nox’s age and glanced over to him. Looking down at the picture, he frowned. “Dang...You are really good.” Then he realized something about Lux’s face that seemed familiar. “Have we met before?”
Lux glanced at him, wondering the same thing. Junior did appear familiar to him. “Yeah...I...think we have met?”
Junior then laughed when he realized who Lux was. “Hey! You’re the one Joe likes! Her boyfriend!”
“W-What?” Lux could feel his cheeks turn. “No! I’m not her boyfriend. I’m a boy and her friend, but not a boyfriend. You must be Junior...”
“Hah! Lucas! That’s Joe’s boyfriend. She really likes him a lot! She talks to me about him. Says he’s really calm and sweet. And has a brother that’s really nice and super nerdy too. Hey! Maybe your sister can get with Lux’s brother?” He winked at him.
“Uh...I don’t know.” Lucas said to him. “I doubt he’s her type.”
“W-Wait...I’m just...” Lux then decided to ignore the two boys as best as he could. He wanted to focus on the painting he was working on. After all, it was going to be a gift for Mark. And if he had enough time, he would actually like to do one for Joe too. But with Lucas and Junior being near, he felt that it may not be a wise idea. As they were insisting that Joe and him, were more than just friends. And the idea of dating a friend, was still so weird.
“Dad said that you’re pretty cool. Though he doesn’t understand why you’re here.” Junior said to him.
“It’s no one’s concern.” Lux frowned. “Davis doesn’t need to know.”
“Hahaha! He’s just too shy to admit why he’s here. It’s totally because he wants to get close to Joe. Isn’t it? Though, where’s your parents?” Lucas asked. “I doubt the dragon guy is your Dad. And the girl doesn’t look anything like you two.”
To simply get rid of Lucas, Lux turned to him and said; “Dead.”
“O-Oh...” Lucas then felt very awkward and looked away. He returned to coloring his own picture, ignoring Lux as he felt that their conversation was simply over.

In the midst of all the conversations and kids making art, a voice called out to Mark. A grating, irritating voice that filled him with an anger he couldn't explain. "Heya, stranger!" the voice said from behind him. "Never thought I'd see you grace a big box mall like dis. Thought you were too good for dese kinda places." he smirked a toothy smirk.
"Daniel." Mark spoke through his teeth, not even turning around to look at him. "Shouldn't you be scamming people out of their life savings?"
"HAH! Good one, comin' from someone who charges an arm and a leg!" Danny joked back. His tone wasn't at all malicious, and he genuinely thought the two were joking with each other.
"Ikuki." Mark finally turned around. "Hold me back. I am generally not a violent person and literally just said that everyone deserves kindness, but I am overwhelmed with an urge to commit violent acts."
Danny threw his arm around Mark and laughed a hearty laugh; "Dis guy! He cracks me up! But seriously! I'm out wit Lucas while th'missus finishes up her shift. Art ain't really my thing but hey, it keeps 'im busy! Oooh, who's dis?" he turned his attention to Ikuki. "Th'famous scientist Mark Allen got himself a girlfriend? Damn son, she fine." he elbowed Mark, who looked like he was about to punt Danny into outer space.
"You. Are so lucky. There's kids around." Mark jerked away from him. "And that I'm trying to set a good example for them."
"OKAY!" Ikuki intervened. "It is very nice to meet you, Daniel, but we are spending the day with our, uh..."
"Brothers." Mark referred to both Nox and Lux as such. "And my daughter. It's a family day."
"Brothers? Y'ain't got any brothers! Dose purple-headed guys my kid's talkin' to?" Danny stopped for a while as though his brain had to process and catch up. "Ya' didn't kidnap 'em, didja?"
"NO I DID NOT-" Mark raised his voice, but Ikuki nudged him and made him aware of the fact he was a little bit too loud. "It's none of your business!" he stormed passed Danny to catch up with Lux, before he caught Danny's stupid. "I swear I am going to go back in time and delete him from existence."
"What's going on? This doesn't seem like you. I thought he was...a little eccentric, but he didn't seem like the sort to rattle you so badly." Ikuki set a hand on Mark's shoulder as she followed him to the art table.
"He's the CEO of a pharmaceutical business that gets people addicted to popping pills that give them temporary superpowers. Somehow, he's been able to loophole the system and dodge anything 'technically' illegal. He's got the IQ of a brick, and that's an insult the to brick, yet he's managed to climb to the top out of sheer dumb luck. He is literally the worst kind of person." Mark explained.
"We don't have to stay, if he's making you that uncomfortable." Ikuki held Mark's hand and leaned against him, hoping to get him to calm down.
"No, I'll be fine. As long as he isn't talking to me." Mark glanced back over at Danny, who was grinning his stupid grin and waving at him as though they were the best of friends. "Today isn't about me. Whatever happens, today is about the kids and it's going to be a good day."

Lucas wasn't so sure on how else to speak with Lux as it was quite clear to him that the boy had some issues going on. Especially with how he simply implied that his parents were deceased. He slowly glanced to Junior who still found it amusing for Lux to be awkward about talking to them about Josephine. “I mean...Joe is kind of cute. I like the fire hair that she has.”
Lux gently placed down his paintbrush. Finally reaching the point of annoyance with the two. “Sortir de mon visage!”
“Oh no! He's speaking funny.” Junior backed away from him.
“It's German, I think?” Lucas guessed wrong. “I didn't know he knew another language.”
“Je parle francais. Espece d'idiot.” Lux then swapped spaces with a random little girl to continue his painting in peace. Otherwise, he was about to sock either one in the face. But Lucas inched over to him to continue annoying him.
But before Lux decided to punch the kid, Nox zipped over and inserted himself in between them. “So, you must be the friends of Joe, right? Hi. I'm Nox. Probably never heard of me and that's most likely okay.” He grabbed both of their hands and shook them. “I just want to let you know that my brother and I have very bad habits of screaming profanities and throwing things when we're over stimulated. So I do request that you both back off from us before we make a scene.”
Lux narrowed his eyes at Lucas. “I like to bury dead bodies in rivers. So watch it.”
Lucas gulped and inched to the other side of the table to get away from them. Junior on the other hand, just stopped annoying them and started to speak to the little girl that was dragged into the fire. He no longer had interest in them.
Nox sighed and turned to his brother. “Seriously? Is that the best thing you can think of?”
“It got rid of them.” He flatly said as he finished up his art piece and blew on it to hurry and make it dry. Then he turned to see what Mark was marching over for. He could see the irritated look on his face, which Lux quickly assumed that someone annoyed him. Who it was? He had no idea.
“Hi!” Nox greeted him.
“Hey.” Lux said a bit sheepishly. He then turned away from the table and handed Mark a picture that he quickly painted. “It's....kind of quickly done and I couldn't finish it because of those two...but...it's for you and Ikuki.”
It was a small picture, but on it, he drew some scenic trees with a sun shining over head. There were five quickly painted figures on there, sitting under a large flowering tree of some kind. It was clear that two of them were the twins, there was Tiffany, and Mark and Ikuki. Written on the bottom of it, says; “Happy times.”
“It's for you guys...” Lux said a bit sheepishly. “As I said, it's quickly done...but yeah. I wanted to make something for you...”

When Lux handed them the painting, Mark was almost at a loss for words, but in a good way. He'd never made any kind of impact like this on anyone, and it was clear the bond they had formed was something special. "Lux, this is amazing. You are talented in so many ways, and if Reese wants to say otherwise, then he's an idiot who can't see what's right in front of him."
Of course, he did notice the other two kids that were bugging them, but it wasn't his place to say anything to them. Especially since one of them belonged to Danny, and talking to Danny was like talking to a rock and his kids likely weren't any different. "You know, there's a bookstore around here that also has art supplies. You and Nox would both find something you like, there. It also has coffee, so that's a bonus for me."
"Sounds good to me, if you two are game. You think they have a section on magic?" Ikuki asked.
"Dunno, it's more of a novelty place. They might have some stuff, but the chances of it being legitimate are pretty slim. But hey, if they do, then have at it. If they don't, you could always find some new novels to read. Win-win, right?" Mark shrugged. "If you guys wanna do your magic thing, Lux and I can hang back in the cafe. Tiffany's getting kinda antsy, anyway. What do you think, one last stop before we go to my mom's?"

He couldn't help but smile, though a bit sheepishly. Lux then brought his hand over to his elbow and rubbed it as he wasn't used to something so positive for his artwork. “Thanks. I uh...do it once in a while...”
Then Nox ran over to look at it. He grinned and excitedly said; “Isn't he amazing? He used to draw all the time at home. I would steal paper from some of Reese's books and bring them over to him. Just so I can see him draw things. I...got caught a few times though. But when I told Reese that it was for me, he often let it slide. I...had to keep lying to him.” He shrugged, regretting nothing.
“Yeah...He is an idiot. That's for sure.” Lux nodded to Mark. “He doesn't see anything in front of him. Just what he wants to see...”
Then it was mentioned to go to a novelty store which may have some artwork supplies and some books. Instantly, this caught both of their attention and they immediately wanted to go. Mostly because Lucas and Junior were annoying them and they wanted to get out before Lux beat the snot out of the two kids. Regardless of how old they were.
Quickly, they then walked out of the art exhibit. Of course, along the way the twins did get a souvenir as they wanted to have something to bring back with them to decorate their space. Being at Mark's home, even if their room was very small for the two of them, they enjoyed being able to get some things to dress it up. The twins were used to sharing spaces together, so having to share now wasn't even an issue. In fact, it was most likely a comfort now.
Lux was beginning to smile more as they proceeded towards the store in question. He was listening to Nox tell Ikuki and Mark about the things he's drawn in the past. The gifts he's given others. Especially to the lady who taught Lux to sign language. Nox even mentioned that sometimes, he would do some blueprint work just to show Reese that he wasn't lying.
The two of them combined, they were actually quite talented. Lux for design and color and Nox with his measurements and structuring. The two of them would be fairly good at designing a building, had they any interest in such a thing.
When they arrived at the store, the boys were definitely showing their excitement. And as they got out of the car, Nox did take a few steps ahead of them. His attempt to run off without them. But he stopped as he recalled that this, was an adventure for them all and not just for him. So he stopped by the door and waited for them to get closer. Once they did, he opened the door for them and allowed them to go in first, before himself.
Inside, Lux could smell the scent of art supplies. Wood, paint, canvas, you name it. The smell was there. A part of him seemed overjoyed with it all too as he eagerly looked around the store, like a kid in a candy department. “Woah...” He chimed as he saw that there happened to be a sale going on.
“Hello! Welcome to Ron's!” A young woman smiled at them. She had paint all over her apron and some on her cheeks. It appeared that she had just gotten done with a small class. Her hair was pulled back into two pigtails and wore a painter's cap on top. She also had thick brown glasses and stood no taller than the twins. However, she was not a child but just a smaller sized young woman. “We have a big sale going on, celebrating our twentieth anniversary. If you have questions, please do not be afraid to ask!”
“Do you guys still have books here?” Asked Nox as he was far more excited for those instead. “Uh...” He looked at her name tag and added; “Miss. Malon?”
Malon giggled at his polite behavior. “Yes, we did have to move it all downstairs though. But we do have some for you to look at. If you want to check out, there's also a register as well as some other associates down there to assist you.” She then smiled to Mark and Ikuki, when Nox immediately darted off. “He's so polite!”
Lux winced when Nox ran off again. He then let out a sigh. “Man, he's going to get into trouble one of these days...” He then turned to Mark, wondering if he was going to try and follow after his crazy brother, or if it was going to be Ikuki.
“I kind of want to stay up here and look around. If that's okay.” Lux said to them both. He didn't want to be like Nox and take off without first telling him what he planned on doing.
However, he had to admit. The place was rather quaint. The store's décor was very natural in appearance with wooden structuring to support it. It had this old rustic feeling to it, something that reminded him of their grandmother's place, back when they were super young. The flooring was worn but in great condition. The shelving were all made from wood but not in a highly manufactured way. It appeared like someone carved them all out by hand and made it, also by hand.
Something about the place, really made Lux feel at ease. And he seemed a lot calmer than he was, back at the mall. “There's so much in here.”
“We have some novelty stuff and a lot of gifts for folks.” Malon said with a smirk. “We have some cute things, if you have a little friend.” She was hinting that there were cute items for romantic couples to get one another too. But she left it vague.

"Go for it." Mark said to Lux. "I'm gonna hang back here, too. It's where all the coffee is. I might actually have a few ideas for when we get home, anyway." Though he wasn't sure what, yet, his intent was to find something for Lux to do once they got back, maybe a way to channel his feelings. He just had to find out what Lux's favorite medium was, or if there was anything new he'd like to try.
When Malon hinted they had cute items for couples, the tone went right over his head. "Oh, yeah. I guess I should get something for Nathan, since he couldn't be here. He would've loved spending the day with us. Maybe some kinda good luck thing he can take with him, if he gets clearance to the Expanse." his mind went to his friend, instead of romance.
"Well, I might be interested in getting something for someone." Ikuki did, however, pick up on the tone, as she leaned against Mark's shoulder. Mark remained clueless, which she took in a positive way, since he would be surprised when she gave him a gift. "Maybe I'll find something downstairs, who knows." she said as she followed Nox to the bookstore.
"Okay, we'll meet back later, then." Mark smiled at her as she left him, Tiffany and Lux together. "Is it just me, or is she being weird?" he asked Lux.
Downstairs, it didn't seem super busy like the mall. There were a few people here and there, but these days people tend to read digital books. There were a few seating areas here and there, for people to relax on while enjoying a book and deciding on whether they liked it enough to purchase it. Ikuki found the environment rather peaceful, and started looking for a section on magic.
While looking around, she almost bumped into a young girl, who seemed to be coming from the same place Ikuki was looking for. She held several books on transformation and enchantment magic, and the girl herself appeared to be somewhat young, though it was hard to pinpoint an age. She wore an outfit of deep blues and purples with small rounded glasses, and her hair was a deep raspberry color, and almost looked at though it had glitter in it. Between her outfit and hair, she gave off the vibe of brilliant twilight colors. "Excuse me." she said, politely.
"Oh, excuse me." Ikuki smiled at her. "If I might ask, which aisle did you find those books?"
"Oh, these are boring." the girl said. "You're probably looking for the fiction section, over there." she pointed to a different aisle than where she'd come from.
"What makes you say that?"
"Most people around here want something with a little more pizazz, than these books." she elaborated, thinking Ikuki and Nox were simply tourists just wanting a fun souvenir. "These are pretty boring and nerdy."

It took Malon by surprise that Mark didn't pick up on her hint. But then again, she also felt that she may have assumed incorrectly and that the two entering the store, weren't a couple at all. In a way, she felt embarrassed for assuming such a thing. However, Ikuki caught the drift and leaned her head into Mark, which then indicated that her first thoughts may be correct and that the male wasn't too aware on subtle hints. Or, he may not have been paying attention to the biggest part of the conversation.
Regardless, she let out a small chuckle. “Well, hope you have fun then!” She turned away as another customer entered the store and she quickly went over to greet him as well.
When Ikuki left with Nox, Mark asked Lux if she was being strange. He then glanced over to Mark and squinted his eyes at him. “Um...No?” Lux paused for a quick debate with himself. Should he explain it to Mark? Or should he just ignore the fact that everything just went over his head?
Either way, their relationship wasn't really his deal. So he figured to let it slide. “I think she's just being more comfortable around you. That's all.” He shrugged, figuring that may have been the easiest and best possible way to tell him.
Figuring that Mark may have wanted coffee, Lux led Mark over to the small cafe area, which was close to the paints and canvases. The closer they got, the stronger the cafe's scent became. And although Lux rarely snacked on anything, just due to not ever being hungry, he did enjoy the smells that came from the area.
“This place is so quiet. I love it.” Lux admitted. There was small chatter going on between other customers, but it was a typical and casual sort of chatting. Some had small laughs as they shared stories over a coffee and a muffin, while others were busy tapping away on their laptops. One table had a little girl with fiery orange hair, kicking enthusiastically as her Father calmly read her a book. She was really involved with it and hugged her princess plushie really tightly as her eyes never left her Father's book.
Lux felt that was rather cute. Just the over all scene of a Father enjoying his time with his daughter. It then made him remember that his own Father, rarely spent time with him and his twin brother. Most of the time, it was their Mother who read them stories and played with them. Out of all the memories he had of his parents, his Father was mostly vacant. Not because he didn't want to spend time with them, but because he was always working so much and just rarely had time to spend with his family.
Then there was a part of him, as he wondered if that's why Reese hated them so much. Perhaps before meeting their Mother, Father was able to spend time with Reese a lot. Then upon meeting her, everything changed. They didn't live a wealthy life. Their home wasn't anything remarkable. But it was a place that offered shelter from the elements and that's all Lux really cared about.
He shook his head and looked away, not wanting to put himself down from the past. Lux put a smile on his face to Mark and said; “Maybe you can find a good coffee here? I'm just going to look at the paint stuff, for now. Maybe grab a small sketch book too so I can jot down ideas...or sketch things out when I can't have paint.” He shrugged. Then turned away to go and have a look.
- - - -
Nox flinched when Ikuki nearly bumped into the young stranger. He almost made a move towards them both, fearing that books may have fallen or someone may have tripped. But luckily, none of that happened and he simply stood beside Ikuki. He then smiled as the young girl seemed so pleasant to speak to. And he also couldn't get around her hair. It seemed so majestic to him. The way the light shined on her glittery hair.
Ikuki spoke first as she pointed out that she had interest in the books within the girl's hands. But the girl seemed a bit apprehensive to tell her and insisted that they were dull to read. Nox then adjusted his own glasses and leaned inwards. And being at the rough level of where she was holding them, he was easily able to see the titles of the books.
“Oh? Enchantments? Transformations? Interesting choices of books.” Nox said as he made sure there was enough space between them. He didn't want to make her feel anymore awkward than she probably already did. “You know, the initial feelings behind transformation is normally thought to be for heretics and those who have ill intentions of causing trouble. But I'd like to think of it as, using it in ways to be beneficial in situations that aren't normally easily solved. I for one, have some experience in transformation. Though...I am by no means any expert at it...As I can only turn into a sword for my twin, who can also perform such a spell.”
He then thought for a second about enchantments. “Come to think of it...” He glanced to Ikuki. “Didn't you mention something about enchanting our scarves to be something that could be of use for when we're in trouble? Perhaps those books there would be of interest for us to look for.” Nox then realized he wasn't wearing his scarf and froze for a moment.
But he recalled that it was a deal that he and Lux made, when they put on their new clothes. Nox then laughed a bit nervously before returning his attention to the stranger with the interesting books. “I feel that those books will be quite interesting for us, indeed. May we learn where you got them? I'm a beginner on all of this stuff so any help at all will be most welcomed!”

"I thought she was already comfortable?" Mark was confused. Ikuki seemed like she was already really comfortable, and so was he. It took a few moments of deep thought before he finally gave up and shrugged it off. "Anyway, I'm going to hang back here and get a coffee, and...a snack? I don't...remember the last time I ate anything. Have I not been eating, the whole time you've been here?"
Suddenly all the sounds around him seemed a lot louder than they were, and he could feel his heart beating faster. Thoughts started breaking through the barrier as he realized that over the last few weeks, he hadn't eaten, hadn't slept, been stabbed through the heart, time traveled to the ancient past, reversed time in a giant laser, and astral projected himself an alarming number of times. Panic almost set in again, until the sound of Lux's voice snapped him back into reality.
"Yeah, sure. Have at it." he shook the thoughts out of his head and smiled, like nothing was wrong. "Grab whatever you want. I want you two to feel at home, here. Make your room, your own. So, knock yourself out and come get me when you're ready. We can hang out here or downstairs with Ikuki and Nox. You can do art, while they do their thing. Up to you."
---------
"Oh? Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't realize you were nerds!" the young girl apologized, sincerely. "It's not often I meet legitimate magic users, in this city! Most people tend to lean toward science and technology, which I think is too easy. Anyway, my name's Dawn! Nice to meet you...?"
"Ikuki." she smiled as she introduced herself. "And this is Nox. Um, are you here alone?" she wondered where the girl's parents were, as it was odd to see a child wandering around by herself, especially carrying such advanced magical books.
"Yup!" Dawn smiled, as she lead the two into the aisle of magical tomes. "You two seem pretty cool, so I'll tell you a secret. I'm actually a dragon! I come from a clan in Moonlight Ridge, the more magical side of the world. Our clan specializes in astronomy, interdimensional travel, and arcane magic." she stated, proudly. "I was sent here to learn about the more scientific side of the world, to apply it to our own technologies. Someday I hope to become a librarian. It sounds boring and dumb, but being surrounded by so much knowledge just fascinates me!"
"Oh! I know where that is! I actually come from the same place!" Ikuki said, excitedly. "It's called Glimmer!" she explained, mostly to Nox. "It's a city inside of a giant crater, surrounded by crystalized mountains! Moonlight Ridge in on the northern-most side, and I come from the wizard monastery in the east!"
"Small world!" Dawn smiled.
"And yes," Ikuki answered Nox's question about the scarves. "It is absolutely possible to transform your scarves! It will be much easier once you decide how they can be most helpful to you, though. For something so sentimental, it will be difficult to get experimental magic to stick to it. It's easiest once you know what your heart desires, and once you know that, then the magic will also know. If that makes any sense."

“Wow! You’re such a different dragon than my brother’s friend is!” He said enthusiastically as he followed after her through the store. “Dragons must have different variations, much like Elves and other species. How interesting!” Nox saw some other books as he passed that he thought Lux may like, but the thought of him actually sitting down and read, was something a bit foreign and he doubt his brother actually would.
So he decided to continue. “Her specific branch has fiery hair and they have like...scales of some sort on different parts of their bodies. Like, hers look like gloves. My brother and I come from a massive city out West from here. It’s so massive that it had to be broken down into five divisions. The division we’re from, is actually heavy with Magic and lacks a lot of technological knowledge. The other parts of the city, vary in how strong or weak their knowledge in technology.
And even though it’s an interesting idea, it’s really kind of not...” He frowned. “The whole city is always in a fight with itself. But I think the Division I’m from is actually quite safe, for the most part. So I prefer that one over the others.” He shrugged. “But your place sounds amazing! Maybe one day, I can go check it out!”
It dawned onto him that he wasn’t sure if Lux would be at all interested with something like that. “Hmm...I wonder if my brother would like that? He’s...a bit um...warrior-like? I guess?” He shook his head. “I’m sure if we’re lingering around one another long enough, you’ll see him too. He’s exactly like me, but shorter, thinner, and doesn’t have glasses. And...he may or may not be in the best of moods.”
They arrived at the book section and Nox was more than eager to quickly dive into it and emerge with several books at hand. But he had to remember, he doesn’t have his brother with him as of this moment. Whatever he grabs, he has to be able to handle on his own. After all, it would be rude to make Ikuki hold them for him.
“This is so cool. It’s really nice to meet you Dawn.” He smiled to her. “By the way, I have to say I like the hair! It’s so shiny!”

Lux didn’t realize the crisis Mark was having and simply thought he was lost in a trance or something. He shrugged after Mark snapped out of it and migrated over to the art supply section. Looking around, he was beginning to think this was going to be overwhelming. There was so much to grab. So much to look for. What could he possibly do?
But he trucked through it all. Grabbing some books, pencils, a small amount of canvases and paint with brushes. He even asked Malon where some things were and what he should do. She was helping him out for the most part, which he felt was really nice.
Then he found out that she was from the same District as he was. “Woah! You are?”
“I came here to help my Mother out.” She smiled to him. “My son is with her at the moment, making sure she’s got everything she needs. But I ended up getting a job here and I don’t know if I want to go back! It’s so cute here. Though, a bit more chaotic than the North District. But that’s okay. It changes life up a little from time to time.” She giggled before slipping him another discount coupon. She then winked. “It works on sale items too. I don’t normally give them out unless there’s trouble, but you’re a cute kid.”
“Thanks!” Lux chimed. “Alright.... Let’s see what else I can get for this?” He then tapped his chin and debated on what else he should get involved with, on painting.

Dawn cringed a little at Nox's comments, but decided to feign a smile and politely explain to him; "Not all dragons look the same. Just like all humans aren't the same. Dragons have different elements they connect to, and even the ones of the same element aren't always going to look alike. We're all the same species. We're all dragons. We're all just unique like any other human..or elf."
It clicked with Ikuki what the girl was hinting at, and she tried her best not to draw attention to it, to not embarrass or call out Nox. "So, what's your primary element, if it's okay to ask?"
"Air," Dawn answered, "But I was born and raised in an arcane clan, so I like to study weirder magic. We're kind of stuck with whatever element we're born with, but that doesn't mean we can't use spells and potions. I'm hoping to study as much of the arcane arts as possible, in hopes of one day being able to change my element. What elements are you two?" she asked, throwing Ikuki a little bit off guard.
"What?"
"Your element. You're from the wizard monastery, right? Didn't they teach you what your element was? All babies who are brought into the monastery have their element documented and classes assigned to them, accordingly, don't they?"
"Right. Yes. You're correct about that. The thing is," Ikuki fidgeted a bit nervously. "I was the exception. I was brought in much older, so I don't know anything about my heritage or what magical element I lean toward. I've studied all kinds of magic, and I can do a little bit of each element, but nothing very extravagant or impressive. That's why I'm looking for books, here. I'd love to figure out what element I'm inclined to, so I can master it, someday. The only one I haven't tried yet, is..." she trailed off, as she was looking for a very specific kind of book. The kind of book she was looking for, most likely wasn't going to be just sitting out in the open for anyone to find. "Oh, it's not important. Today isn't for me, anyway." she smiled, brushing it off, which Dawn thought was a little strange.
She was a little unsure of what to say, when Nox complemented her hair, not used to receiving complements or much social interaction at all. She normally just kept to herself and read her books, not really minding not having any social interaction. "Th...thank you? I like to fix it up to look like the twilight sky. Um. Anyway. It was very nice to meet you, too. If you ever wanted to hang out more, this is where I'm normally at."
--------
Mark smiled as he watched Lux grab art supplies, and make friendly conversation with Malon. It was nice to see him being social and making friends, like when they first met. Tiffany was munching on cereal, just happy to be out of the stroller. She did not care what anyone else around her was doing.
Honestly, it was nice to just have a day out and not worry about fighting bad guys or what the latest upgrades on his work would be. He did get the occasional passerby notice him, though, and chatter about him. The attention made him a little uncomfortable, but when one owns a high profile business such as cybernetic enhancements, one does tend to get people staring at them. He just ignored them, perfectly content just sipping on coffee and tapping away on his phone, talking with someone. The text exchanges did not have a number attached to them, and Mark was very careful to not let anyone see the exchange. Tiffany just stared up at him, while munching on her cereal snack.
"Hey, don't judge me." Mark said. "Call me crazy, but I don't think he's all that bad. I mean, yeah, technically blowing up half the planet was pretty bad...but I think it was someone else, controlling him. I think...it might have been those lizard guys. What do you think?" he asked Tiffany, who only responded by throwing cereal at him. "Yeah, I guess it does sound pretty crazy."

Unfortunately, Nox didn’t quite understand how he sounded towards her and thus, looked upon her in amazement. At first, he didn’t make the connection that dragons were capable of being different elements. And never once had he even thought about them being similar to humans and Elves, in terms of having a variety of appearances and elemental attributes.
But it did eventually sink in, when she was explaining to him about her kind. However, either way, he was still amazed to hear someone tell him about their species. He eagerly bounced in place, most likely making it more awkward for Dawn. “That is just so cool!”
Then the question. What were their primary elements? Nox stopped being enthusiastic and really had to think if over. He never thought about such a thing before. It was all new to him as he still had much to uncover about himself. As well as his own brother. “Uh...I’ll let Ikuki speak first...” There was a hint of disappointment in his voice, as he actually couldn’t come up with an answer for her.
While listening to their exchange, Ikuki seemed to be a bit reluctant to respond to Dawn. For reasons that Nox didn’t know about, he quickly knew that he was going to need to answer her question soon. And once their exchange ended, it was time for him.
“Um...well...” He rubbed the back of his head. “I...don’t know actually. We-err, my brother and I don’t really know anything about ourselves. The only thing we can both do is, transform into swords. We’ve only been trained to do that, so...I don’t know what else we’re capable of doing.”
He let out a sigh. “It’s kind of why I think he’s been in a mood lately. He and I both want to do whatever we can to help others. But not knowing anything about our heritage or our parents...or ourselves, we are sort of stumbling along. But the one weird thing I am starting to notice is...my brother has zero magical attributes of his own. Anything I can do, he can also do. However, I can dabble in other magical areas and...sort of have a spark or something? But him? Nothing at all. And I think that’s been bugging him.”
Nox shook his head. “Which is why I’m interested with alchemy or anything that can allow me to pretty much give him buffs. He’s more of a warrior-kind of person. Give him a sword and he knows how to fight. I on the other hand, do not like any of that stuff. So if I can just...find a way to give him my own stamina or energy...I’d be feeling like I’m capable of helping him in some way. I just...don’t exactly know where to look or begin training.” He wrinkled his nose.
“We have an older brother, but he’s been pretty tight-lipped about everything. He won’t even talk to us about our parents, which really bugs me. I had thought about investigating our Mother’s name on the internet. But...I somehow doubt I’m going to find anything worthwhile.” There was another sigh. “Lux thinks she was an opera singer. And I remember going to see one. But I am second guessing myself.”
Then he realized he may have spoken too much to the stranger. He flinched. “AAH! SORRY! I’m not very good with talking to others. I uh...usually let my brother handle that. He’s...good with speech...”
- - - - - -
Lux had no idea that Mark was in talks with someone on his phone. Instead, he’s been following Malon around and asking her a hundred and one questions about various materials. Which she was more than happy to answer without hesitation. In fact, she was even enjoying the idea that he was so inquisitive about it all.
Before he knew it, he had a bunch of stuff in his arms. It was nearing the point where he was going to need a cart or would have to pick through his pile and debate on what should stay at the store. He then lugged it all over to the table beside Mark and groaned. Flopping on top of the pile out of sheer exhaustion.
“I think I went crazy...” He said as he fumbled to catch a falling paint bottle. After he placed it onto the table, he re-examined everything. “Okay...I need some books to work on. Some pencils, which I found a good deal on a bundle. Some paint to work with, which is kinda neat. I found this kit that has a bunch of starter stuff in it. Though, I noticed it was missing a few colors, so that’s why I grabbed some random ones... Uh...”
Lux bit his lip, suddenly he felt bad for having all of this stuff on the table. “Are...Are you sure all of this is okay, Mark? I don’t...want to just...go crazy with this... I can put some back, if it’s too much... I just...really kind of got carried away with Malon.” He paused for a moment and added; “She even told me which ones would be good to start with and recommended me the paints that she uses for her own projects. She was pretty honest with me, which was really nice of her.”
He quickly caught another bottle rolling off the table. Pushing it back he added; “She even gave me an extra coupon for another discount. So...I sort of went nuts...” Lux then noticed Tiffany munching away on her food. He gave her a small smile, unsure if she would even respond to him at all or not.

Dawn listened as Nox spoke to her, unsure of what to say. All she could do was take it all in, internally screaming about being super awkward and not knowing how to talk to people. All she could do, was simply and very awkwardly pat Nox on the shoulder, and say "That's rough." and immediately freak out about the encounter being awkward.
Then when Nox apologized, that caused her to step back and apologize as well. "I'm sorry, too! I'm very limited in subjects I can strike a conversation about! I wasn't mentally prepared to be talking this long, I didn't have any other topics prepared."
"Oh, we didn't mean to bother you! Thank you very much for showing us over here!" Ikuki smiled at her.
"It's okay, you're not a bother, at all! I just have to prepare myself for conversation beyond what the topic was already about. I'm not really one who studies people by interacting with them, I prefer to read their stories." Dawn explained. "But hey! There's some books on alchemy, here! There's not a lot to choose from since this is the fancier part of town, but it's a start, I guess?"
"I suppose, though I am interested in the historical district to see what we can find, there." Ikuki said as she looked through the books, picking a few for herself. Most of them were things she already knew and had studied, but figured it wouldn't hurt to look through them to see if there was anything the monastery hadn't taught her. "It's a shame there's nothing of dark magic, here. Uh, to study, of course. I've studied every element, except for that one." she grew slightly nervous over the thought of being judged, for wanting to study dark magic.
-----
Mark quickly stuffed his phone back in his pocket, as Lux approached. While they did know that he and Ikuki was trying to reach out to Apollo, he wasn't quite ready to reveal what he'd figured out, just yet. After all, today was a day for fun and relaxing, not talking about Apollo.
"Don't worry about it, Lux." he smiled at him. "I appreciate the concern, but I knew what I was doing, when I took you guys out today. Life isn't just about fighting bad guys, all the time. If you two are going to stay with me, however long it might be, then I want you to feel at home. Not like you're just living with your teacher."
"Plus, Tiff likes you." he added as she smiled back at Lux. "If you're ready, we'll go meet your brother downstairs and see if he's ready, too. My mom is starting to bug me where we're at, and she's the sort of person who will panic if I don't respond in under a minute." he joked, but was also completely serious.

Lux smiled and poked at Tiffany again to get her to giggle. He had to admit, she was actually quite adorable to play with. Her little smiles and coos. She was such a happy child and he enjoyed seeing her be that way. It was just a nice sight for a world that seemed so strained.
He didn’t even think about asking him on who he was speaking to. Lux didn’t actually care too much. But what he did care was, how Mark was treating him and his brother. “Thank you.” He said with a soft tone. It meant a lot to him seeing how Mark was treating them so kindly.
After they spent the money to purchase the supplies, they headed downstairs to grab Ikuki and his brother Nox.
- - - - - -
Luckily for Ikuki, Nox didn’t know all that much about dark magic. So she wouldn’t have to worry about him fearing her or treating her poorly over it. To him, magic was magic. Regardless of the element, one may be able to use it for good, or for bad. It was all based on how the user applied their thoughts and feelings to it, that makes it beneficial or dangerous.
But then again, as stated before. He doesn’t know much about magic and what it entailed. He was just simply trying to figure out what he was good at so that he may apply his expertise elsewhere to benefit others, or more importantly, his brother.
Nox smiled at her, feeling slightly relieved that she understood how hard it was to not be awkward around folks. Talking wasn’t his strong suit either, but he did try. It’s just sometimes, he comes off a bit short. Or misses the point entirely.
He gathered a few books for himself and looked them over. “You know...I never really thought much about magic. Reese was always against teaching us for some reason. And I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t know anything himself. Or he doesn’t want us being better than him.” Nox then shrugged. “Eh, we’ll do our own thing...”
Then he realized he was talking out loud. “Oh...uh....”
“Nox?”
“LUX!” He rushed over to him then dragged him over to Dawn. “Meet Dawn! A dragon! She knows a lot! Isn’t that great?”
“Another nerd? Good. Now you can discuss quantum physics or magical remedies to cure headaches. Like mine, the one you give me all the time.” He joked and elbowed his brother. “Hi. I’m Lux. The cooler brother.”
Nox laughed, he then looped his arm around his brother and grinned. “She helped us find some books we’re looking for. She wants to be a librarian! Isn’t that neat?”
Lux shrugged. “I suppose. Didn’t you want to be a recorder or something? Whatever they’re called? Chronicler?”
“I do, actually. Though...I’m kind of at a cross road right now between a lot of stuff. But I have a ton of time before I have to decide.”
“We should get going to Mark’s Mom’s place. I guess she’s been calling him and asking where we are. So we...probably shouldn’t make her wait. After all, she did scare yo-“ Lux couldn’t even finish his sentence before Nox rushed off to pay for his books. Then when he came back, Lux couldn’t even get another word in before his brother fired out something.
“Sorry! We probably should go. His Mom scares me a lot because I don’t know what she’s saying. And I don’t want to be threatened by her. I don’t know what she’s capable of doing but still. I don’t like being yelled at...” He poked his fingers together a bit sheepishly. “I uh...hope to see you again, Dawn! Maybe...we can talk more about magic and stuff? I’ll read more and then be able to have a more...um...intellectual discussion!”
“You make that sound like it’s something secret...or dirty.” Lux frowned.
“MARK!” Nox turned away from Lux. “READY!”

Dawn was taken a bit by surprise as Nox dragged his brother over. After all, she wasn't expecting to be so social for so long, yet alone meet more people within the group. She had to think quickly, and try her best not to choke and run off. "Um, hello. Yes. I am a dragon!" she said, awkwardly introducing herself. "I don't normally look like this, all the time. I just can't morph, indoors." she laughed, nervously. When Lux mentioned Nox wanting to be a chronicler, that caught her attention. "Oh! I do something similar! I'm here studying humans and their technology, so I write down every encounter and what the person is like. Um, full disclosure, I am most definitely going to be writing about all of you."
When Nox called out for Mark, who was meeting them downstairs, the feathers in her hair began to ruffle as though she sensed danger. She didn't know what it was or who caused it, until she noticed Mark. The wings on his head, and his eyes were both unmistakable. "I didn't know you were friends with...one of them." she backed away.
"What?" Mark was confused. The girl seemed terrified, but he'd never seen her before in his life. "Look, first off, my name is Mark. Famous scientist. I don't know who 'they' are, but I'm just me. Second off, I've never seen you before. The heck are you on about?"
"The primordial gods." Dawn said. "You're one of them. They're not...they're not good entities. They only make bad things happen. Don't you all know how the universe was created?" she looked at all of them, who seemed to be very confused. "Chaos! Time and Space created Chaos! That's the core of creation! It was fine when they all stayed up in space and left well enough alone, but ever since they gave their powers to humans...Chaos followed everywhere they went! Humans don't know how to leave things alone! All they do is cause destruction and chaos..."
"I'm...I'm not..." Mark stammered. "That isn't... we should go." he turned away before anyone could see the panic starting to appear in his eyes, at least he hoped nobody saw.
"Mark? Hey, why don't you let me drive? Just tell me how to get to your mom's." Ikuki followed after him, knowing what was about to happen. "It was nice to meet you, Dawn. I do hope we see each other again, to follow up on some things."
Dawn didn't say anything to Ikuki, but she set a hand on Nox's shoulder before he could leave. "Please be careful, around him. The gods aren't good people. None of them are. They might think they are, but all they do is mess things up. To combine all the power of a god with all the faults of human nature...that was never a good idea. Just...I don't want you to get hurt, okay? Despite me being really awkward, I'd like to see you again."
